The information contained on a
CPM network represents less than 5% of the data required to control a project.
Very few people understand the information contained in the CPM model, requiring
manual re-entering of date to other documents.
SCH transfers data generated by Microsoft Project or any other scheduling
package into the JMS© database so information can be used by the project
staff with no need to run the scheduling package.
Microsoft Project is used as the default scheduling package because of
its seamless connectivity with the other Microsoft office applications
and because it has its own programming language. The schedule information
is stored in the JMS© database allowing dates from the schedule to
be used directly by all the JMS© modules. Required dates calculated
in the CPM network can easily be transferred to each individual document
in the Engineering Management (EMS) module or to each piece of equipment
in the Equipment Management (EQM) module etc. On the other hand, data
from any JMS© module can be transferred to the CPM Schedule i.e.
procurement cycle duration from purchase orders or contracts contained
in the Procurement (PXS) module can be represented by one activity on
the CPM Network.
Global project coding planning and understanding of the JMS© data
organization can substantially reduce the quantity of activity on the
CPM network making this an effective coordination tool. The basic planning
coding such as the WBS, the Package list, Process system coding, the project
organization etc. can be defined in the SCH module. This information is
then readily available to the other JMS© modules.
